Seagulls threaten big birds

A MUNICH-bound Norwegian aircraft that had just taken off from Alicante-Elche airport yesterday (Thursday) was forced to make an emergency landing due to damage caused by a seagull.
The pilot reported that several birds crashed into one of the plane’s wings shortly after take-off.
An airline spokesman said the pilot had decided to fly back to Alicante-Elche airport for safety reasons, although he did not think the aircraft had been damaged.
The incident highlights the growing danger aircraft using the aiport are facing in the form of seagulls that are flocking to the nearby rubbish tip in Fontcalent each day to feed.
