SPAIN has been experiencing its coldest week of the winter after a low-pressure system formed to the south-east and moved across the peninsula. Snow fell as low as 200 metres above sea level in northern provinces with precipitation across most of the country causing extreme travel disruption, triggering power cuts and closing many schools and colleges.

The cold snap began last Thursday with around 350 roads and mountain passes closed to traffic by Tuesday morning.
