Consumer rights groups to fight Ryanair’s new hand luggage charge

CONSUMER rights groups in Spain have announced legal action against low-cost airline Ryanair after it announced last Friday that it would be charging for large hand luggage from November 1.
Consumer rights association Facua has warned all airlines that article 97 of Spanish air travel legislation (Ley de Navegación Aerea) specifically states the obligation airlines have to carry passengers’ hand luggage free of charge.
The airline, which has the largest number of flights from Alicante/Elche airport to the UK, will be charging between €6 and €10 for what until now has been free hand luggage of up to 10-kilos taken on-board.
