Dear Editor,

I was surprised to read the recent reports criticising the treatment and care at Denia’s Marina Salud hospital.

Whilst realising that one can only really judge by one’s own experiences, and I do not have the benefit of access to the statistical information referred to, I would question the validity of the criticisms and wonder if they may be politically motivated?

My own recent experiences of Denia Hospital have been more than satisfactory.

Outpatients’ clinics run to time. The place is spotlessly clean, well appointed, well signed and well equipped. The staff including nurses, porters, caterers and cleaners are charming , helpful and friendly -and they smile!

The medical teams display efficient professionalism, are certainly caring and are very reassuring.

They have clearly all worked very hard to ensure that non-Spanish speakers do not miss out. All treatments were promptly delivered with obvious good communication between departments.

Having worked in private sector healthcare in the U.K. and having experienced the highly- rated French system with its mix of public and private providers, I would put Denia up there with the best.

Maybe I was lucky to use the hospital outside the peak season when demand could possibly swamp available resources, but overall I just count myself very lucky that Denia is my local hospital.

Yours,

Rod Goodman
