I completely agree with James from Murcia (‘Letters to the Editor’ last week). While most Spanish residents in my urbanisation keep their own properties clean and tidy, they do not seem to have a community spirit. The school nearby generates an enormous litter problem on our streets and every time I walk around, I pick up any rubbish I come across. Other nationalities do this too. Not the locals, however.
It is the same with weeds on the kerb. I pull these and spray weed killer all around the urbanisation. The Spaniards seem to think someone else will do it, or more likely they don’t even notice the unsightly appearance of rubbish, graffiti or weeds. Why is this?
