Over 300,000 passengers are affected by Monarch Airlines annonucement that it ceases trading immediately. The airline operated several weekly flights from Alicante airport. Around 110,000 Monarch customers are still abroad, but the Civil Aviation Authority has assured it will be chartering 30 aircraft to return passengers to the UK. Passengers are told not to go to airports.
