Almería council scraps dog euthanasia by-law

Animal rights activists hail victory following lengthy campaign backed by socialists and film actor over 'canine holocaust' claims

Abandoned dogs classed as potentially dangerous will no longer be put down immediately on arrival at Almería city’s municipal pound after a motion tabled by the Socialist PSOE party in support of adoption was approved at a plenary meeting this week.

The proposal by the opposition PSOE party was aimed at scrapping the controversial law dating from 2004.
