Water war warms up

More than 4,000 demonstrators descended on the centre of Alicante on Tuesday to protest against the reduction in the amount of water that can be transferred to the area from the River Tajo.

They dumped 7,000 kilos of oranges in front of the national government’s office in the city, who they blame for a measure which they claim could ruin many thousands of farmers.
