Firstly – Happy Christmas to You! Many thanks for reading Cork Talk!
Whilst all the following highlights are exactly that, highlights, there can be no doubt that the biggest thrill for me this year was my visit to Bucharest, to join the judging panel of the International Wine Contest Bucharest Romania! It was a most memorable experience – so many different nationalities and cultures present, all with a common cause, and all getting on together famously. If only our political masters could take a leaf out of our book (or off our vines?)!
The competition is at this time the largest and most prestigious wine competition in Eastern Europe, and it firmly intends to retain that ranking! This year was the 14th in succession with 57 judges involved, 24 from Romania and 33 from 22 different countries! Represented were countries as diverse and far apart as Australia, USA, Spain; UK and Holland, plus, understandably, a host from Eastern Europe. Indeed, on the panel on which I sat, I was joined by – three Romanians, a Moldovan, a Russian and a Pole!
