A REDUCTION to the speed limit on single carriageway roads in Spain is due to be approved by the Cabinet today (Friday).
A Royal Decree will see the limit on around 7,000 kilometres of A and B roads brought down from 100 km/h to 90 km/h.
Minister for the interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska told state news agency EFE that most fatal road accidents – a total of 77% – occur on these single carriageway roads.
Director of the national traffic department (DGT) Pere Navarro said the measure will move Spain into line with other European countries such as France, Belgium, Portugal and Italy.
