The countryside is a ‘powder keg’

WORRIED residents of Benissa Costa say they are living in fear of fire sweeping across the countryside as fields lie abandoned and overgrown.

During the property boom, developers snapped up rural land with the aim of building lucrative urbanisations on hillsides overlooking the sea.

However, despite a legal requirement for land owners to keep plots free of undergrowth, calls for Benissa town hall to enforce rules have fallen on deaf ears over the years.
