Los Lobos residents mounted a 50-tractor strong road block on the main road into the hamlet on Monday in protest at government plans to expropriate properties for a tortoise reserve in the area.

More than 100 people, 20 lorries and 50 tractors cut off the N-332 for two kilometres between Los Lobos and Muleria, in a demonstration monitored by the Guardia Civil and local police, who controlled traffic flow. Residents were campaigning against the proposed creation of a nature reserve for tortoises displaced by the high speed AVE railway track planned in the province.
