A suspect described as being the leader of a people smuggling gang which brought illegal migrants into Spain on speedboats from Algeria has been arrested by the National Police.
An Alicante judge remanded the 41-year-old Algerian in custody.
He is accused of operating a ‘taxi-patera’ service – charging each migrant €8,000 for the journey.
