FIREFIGHTERS are ‘feeling old’ and overworked in the Marina Alta, but have resorted to youthful measures to make their plight known – graffiti all over their engines.
The brigade needs young blood urgently, given that over four in 10 firefighters in Alicante province are aged over 50, and in a risky job like tackling mountain infernos and walking into burning buildings this means they are mostly pushing retirement age.
