Foreign citizens accounted for more than half of property sales in Alicante province during the first three quarters of 2022, according to the latest figures from the Valencia region professional college of notaries.

Between January and September, a total of 21,930 homes were bought by Spanish people and 23,920 by other nationalities.

This represents a significant surge in sales to international buyers, as the figures presented going back to 2016 show the total for these nine months is higher than for any of the preceding six years, the previous high being 23,114 in all of 2018. If the fourth quarter figures follow a similar trend, the total for 2022 could exceed 30,000.

The international market is also particularly lucrative, as the average price paid by foreign buyers for homes in Alicante province from January to September 2022 was €177,213, compared to just €115,950 by Spaniards.

This difference of over €60,000 between the amount spent by foreign and Spanish buyers has widened considerably compared to the previous six years, over which it remained relatively steady at around €45,000.
