Back to the lakes – part 3

THIS route would definitely be in my top 10 all-time favourite walks. It is an absolute delight from start to finish. After completing the 4-km basic route described in last week’s paper – from the Prat de Pierró car park into the Aigüestortes national park – the path rounds Sant Maurici lake, to meet up with the GR-11 trans-Pyrenean footpath. It then ascends the wonderful, water-filled Ratera valley – following a stream, passing glacial lakes and the verdant pastures which enchant and beguile. The end point is the awesome high mountain area at the Port de Ratera pass at 2,594 metres.

Read about our route in Costa Blanca News – in the shops today (Thursday) due to the Friday bank holiday.
