TWO people suspected of involvement in the stabbing of a football player in Málaga (CDSN last week) have been ordered to be held in custody without bail. The two 20-year-olds, one Spanish and one of Morrocan origin, were detained on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, following the incident the previous Sunday.

Both suspects are reported to be players from the El Palo club and both have now been expelled. Police are treating the stabbing as attempted murder.

The attack took place after the final whistle of a match between the B teams of El Palo and Alhaurín de la Torre football clubs when spectators invaded the pitch and surrounded the players. One of the Alhaurín players, their 24-year-old captain Samuel ‘Samu’ Galán, collapsed, having suffered two stab wounds to his chest. He later underwent emergency open heart surgery when it was found one wound was close to the vital organ.
