SEVERAL fires on the Costa within a 24-hour period last week were quickly contained by firefighters, preventing wider-scale damage.

In the Los Reales zone of Estepona, a column of smoke raised the alarm at around 8.10pm on Thursday. The Infoca wildfire brigade tackled the blaze with 16 firefighters on the ground aided by a helicopter, and had the flames under control by 11.30pm. The fire was declared fully extinguished at around 8.30am on Friday after burning a total of 0.1 hectares, or around 1,000 square metres.

Earlier on Thursday two fires were quickly extinguished in Mijas and Casares.
