Police smash ‘biggest hashish gang in Spain’ but leader escapes

THE National Police and Guardia Civil have arrested 19 people in the break-up of what officials described as “the biggest hashish-trafficking criminal gang operating in Spain”, which was based in the Campo de Gibraltar.

However the leader of the gang, known as ‘Messi’, escaped capture after one of his henchmen attacked and injured two officers with a knife.

All 19 of the arrested gang members have been remanded in custody, and European arrest warrants have been issued for eight other suspects.
