SOME town halls have been holding meetings to explain to UK residents how to go about registering if they want to vote or stand in the local elections to be held in May 2023.
Coinciding with this, the UK government has updated the ‘Living in Spain’ section on its website regarding voting, which provides advice to British citizens living in Spain or planning to move to Spain.
They note that to vote and stand in Spanish municipal elections, ‘you must be resident in Spain for a minimum of three years’.
Interested parties must also be registered on the municipal register (padrón) of the town or city they live in and confirm their registration on the electoral roll (censo electoral) within the dates set by the electoral authorities before each election.
