Carme Chacón, leading member of the PSOE socialist party and former defence minister under PM José Luís Rodríguez Zapatero died in Madrid yesterday (Sunday) at the age of 46. Pending a post-mortem confirmation, it is believed she died of a hereditary upside-down heart condition.
She hit worldwide headlines in April 2008 when she inspected troops as minister while she was eight-months pregnant.
