Mijas experienced a truly odds-defying moment of lottery luck on Saturday. A special National Lottery draw that was held at the town’s own municipal theatre in Las Lagunas served up a €2 million first-prize winning number – that had been sold just 500 metres away at a lottery office in Avenida de Mijas.
The special draw – known as the Sorteo Extradinario de Vacaciones – paid out a total of €140 million in winnings around the country, mostly in smaller but widely-spread prizes. But the first-prize winner, number 8-8-7-9-0, was sold in just two places in all of Spain – the Mijas lottery office and another one in Vigo, Galicia.
