Dog owners in Ojén who fail to clean up after their pets will now be easy to track down, after the town has become the first in Málaga to fully implement a dog DNA register, said local officials last week.

Owners have two months to submit a DNA sample of their pet, after which analyses of dog poop left in the streets will be launched, said mayor José Antonio Gómez.

During the first phase of setting up the register, the town hall will cover the cost of the initial DNA analysis of the animal. However, in the future owners will have to cover the cost themselves when registering their dog.
