Cártama has called for an increased police presence in the town following a wave of robberies. Almost all schools have been attacked in the last year while two municipal vehicles disappeared, one of which later turned up in Torrox. Mayor Jorge Gallardo says Cártama has fewer Guardia Civil officers on the ground than Coín and the Alhauríns, despite being the second most populous.
