Madrid introduced traffic restrictions at the weekend as nitrogen dioxide levels in the city soared. The maximum speed on motorways was reduced from 90 to 70 kphs and non-resident parking was banned in some areas. The town hall urged travellers to use a reinforced public transport system instead of private vehicles during the restrictions.
