The first public consultation ever held in Madrid has come out with a huge majority in favour of widening pavements in the capital’s Gran Vía. However, they have not voted to close the road to private traffic, although acknowledging public transport should have priority. Some 212,000 Madrid residents over 16 took part in the survey, almost 8% of those entitled to have their say.
