Spain’s oldest woman celebrated her 115th birthday on Saturday. Ana Vela Rubio, who was a seamstress after leaving school aged 11, now lives in a nursing home in Barcelona and was visited by her daughter who is a sprightly 89 years old. Her carers say Ana is always smiling and her eyes are bright, although she has lost her cognitive faculties.
