Nerja has lost 1,557 foreign residents in 12 months, according to data from the town hall. The total registered on the municipality’s padrón in September fell to 5,878, despite an urgent call last November for residents to renew their entries. With the total official population now just 21,910, there are fears the figure could drop below 20,000 meaning the town would lose several important benefits.
