Beachgoers at Estepona’s El Cristo beach complained on Sunday of sewage running into the sea after a pipe burst in a nearby street. The town hall said the broken pipe was a water pipe, not sewage, and the beach was not closed. However, local people said the flood of water coming down into the sea carried with it sewage, perhaps washed out of a poorly sealed drain or septic tank.
