MADRID is closing part of the city centre to private vehicles for a large part of the coming festive period. The town hall says the action is being taken to “gain space for pedestrians, especially at a time of high commercial activity”.
Gran Vía and surrounding streets will be pedestrianised on certain peak days ahead of Christmas, and for 24 hours a day from December 23 to January 8. The first 10-day closure bagan last Friday, December 2, and continues until December 11.
