ALLEGEDLY taking advantage of the Pope’s visit to Valencia in 2006 to make money in a fraudulent manner could cost fervent Catholic Juan Cotino dear.
The former Partido Popular (PP) speaker in the Valencia regional parliament, who placed a large wooden crucifix at his side when he was sworn into the position in 2011, will be joined by 22 other suspects in the dock.
The judge in charge of the wide-ranging Gürtel corruption scandal, José de la Mata, opened oral legal proceedings in the ‘Pope visit’ branch of the case last week.
