ALICANTE’S regional councillor for agriculture Elena Cebrián has met with farming representatives to agree new measures to fight the deadly Xylella fastidiosa bacterium which has decimated olive plantations in Italy and Mallorca.

Xylella fastidiosa was first discovered in Spain in Mallorca last year but has now spread to Alicante. As yet there have been no cases reported in Andalucía
