Valencia’s Carmen Montón last night stood down from her position as minister for health and social security over a scandal which arose from the manner in which she obtained a Master’s degree eight years ago.

Sra Montón from the Socialist party (PSOE) said she was resigning her post so the situation would not damage the government led by Pedro Sánchez.

New Partido Popular (PP) leader Pablo Casado is also embroiled in a scandal surrounding the circumstances in which he obtained a Master’s degree but party secretary general Teodoro García Egea said last night (referring to Sr Casado), ‘the innocent should never resign’.
