SPAIN’S Mediterranean coast is no longer a safe haven for British criminals.

Once dubbed the Costa del Crime by the UK tabloids due to the high number of gangsters who appeared to be living the high life on the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca, an avalanche of arrests in recent years has completely changed the panorama.

Figures published this week by state news agency EFE show that 275 Britons have been detained in Spain since 2012.

Of these 24 had international arrest warrants pending, while the remainder were wanted by Spanish police for crimes committed in this country.
