A MAN who neglected and mistreated dozens of horses and other animals on a farm in Alhaurín de la Torre has been convicted and sentenced to seven months in prison. A Málaga court found him guilty of animal abuse for failing to provide adequate care for the animals and “not giving them food or water, which caused a state of malnutrition leading to starvation, with many of the animals dying”.

In February 2010, over a dozen horses died at the property during severe flooding in the zone, with no one on hand to remove them from danger. When Junta de Andalucía workers visited the site following the deaths, they found 26 additional horses and six dogs in “deplorable conditions”, according to the court ruling.
