THE bar and restaurant sector in Málaga has reacted angrily after the town hall suddenly implemented plans to restrict road side terraces. Tables and chairs are now banned on pavements in Calles Santa María, Molina Lario, Císter and Duque de la Victoria in the city’s busy historical heart.
Bar and café owners have been aware for some time that the town hall wanted to end the outside terraces for reasons of safety and to ensure the passage of emergency vehicles and the prioritisation of pedestrian traffic. Terrace licences expired at the end of last year and were not renewed, but until last week no action was taken.
