Tráfico launches seatbelt crackdown - and rolls out new cameras for spotting offenders

The Traffic Department is set to bring its new seatbelt-spying cameras into service, though during the first month offending drivers will be sent a warning letter rather than a ticket

SPAIN’S traffic department, the DGT, has launched a major new country-wide crackdown on the use of seatbelts and children’s safety seats.

The week-long surveillance campaign, coinciding with the start of the new school year, began on Monday and continues until this Sunday, September 18. In a statement, the DGT reminded drivers that rushed school trips, or quick pick-ups and drop-offs, are not an excuse for failing to fasten in children – as short journeys are the ones where the majority of risky driving acts take place.
