Sick sailor dies after being brought off ship to Gibraltar

Infectious disease safety protocols were activated as a precautionary measure

A SICK Filipino seaman from a Greek ship on its way from the Ivory Coast to Romania was brought into the Port of Gibraltar on Sunday but died before he could be treated at St Bernard’s hospital, said government officials.

A full autopsy report is awaited to determine the cause of death but officials said that as a precaution the incident was treated as if the seaman had a potentially infectious disease.
