A Dutch woman trying to board a flight from Madrid to Colombia was arrested a fortnight ago after €180,000 in €500 notes was found hidden in her shoes. Police said the banknotes had been folded very tightly into four packages which were found in the heels. Cash of €10,000 or more leaving the country must be declared, along with proof of origin, to combat money-laundering.
