Andalucía has achieved a record number of organ donations and transplants during 2016. Regional health minister Aquilino Alonso said on Monday that, up to mid-December, 791 transplants had been carried out, surpassing all previous annual totals. He added that, while Andalucía was once, “at the tail of Spain” in transplant surgery, it is now leading the country with 6,791 donations and 15,736 transplants since 1978.
