A cow which was orphaned and brought up as a pet avoided being slaughtered last Friday thanks to almost 190,000 signatures to an online petition. Agricultural authorities in Tortosa near Tarragona say the veterinary history of all cattle must be registered, something which four-year-old Margarita’s owner has not done. Public support means her date at the abattoir was postponed while her history is investigated.
