Fewer Deaths

Spain recorded 2.8% fewer deaths (a total of 410,611) in 2016 compared to the year before, according to new data from the National Statistics Institute (INE). Deaths from natural causes were down 3.1%, but still made up 96.2% of all deaths, while unnatural deaths were up 3.9%, principally due to accidental falls and drowning. The single greatest cause of non-natural deaths, suicide, was down 0.9% to 3,569.
