Ten people were evacuated from their homes outside Cómpeta last Thursday afternoon after fire broke out in an area of scrubland. A 46-year-old Guardia Civil officer required treatment for smoke inhalation as emergency services attended the scene about two kilometres from the town centre. Mayor Obdulio Pérez said around a hectare of land was razed in the Cuesta de Benamayor area.
