A new undersea data cable being laid between the US and Europe is expected to reach Bilbao on Monday. The ship laying the cable left Virginia on May 24 in a project financed by Telefónica, Microsoft and Facebook. The so-called MAREA project will enable cross-Atlantic data transfer at 160 Terrabytes per second, which is 16 million times faster than a normal home Internet connection.
