Mijas’s health councillor, María del Carmen González, has called a meeting for November 10 with local animal shelters and the municipal pound to discuss strategies to boost pet adoptions and reduce animal abandonment. The local pound reported 543 adoptions in 2014 and 744 last year, but says that, while final figures are not yet available, numbers have dropped back down this year.
