A design competition has been launched for a new gourmet market planned in Marbella’s central Avenida Ricardo Soriano.

The company behind the project, Grupo Alfil, presented the scheme at Marbella town hall last week along with mayor Juan Bernal as well as Michelin-star chef Dani García and the former director of Málaga’s La Cónsula cookery school, Rafael de la Fuente, both of whom will be part of the jury for the design competition.

The market – to be created in a 470-square-metre space on the ground floor of the Alfil building – will feature over a dozen stalls offering onsite dining as well as gourmet food products for sale, explained Grupo Alfil’s director, Francisco Gómez. There will also be an annex area for presentations, tastings or other events, to be located on the basement level.
