A GRANT of €361,857 has been secured by Jávea town hall for new rubbish collection systems ‘which encourage recycling’.

A town hall spokesman revealed on Tuesday that the cash is being provided by the regional government’s department for the climate emergency and ecological transition.

It is to ‘help with the implantation’ of new recycling initiatives as well as improving the current system, he explained.

The local authority will be ‘especially’ concentrating on recovering biowaste, which is food and garden waste, and paper and cardboard – defined as ‘waste capable of undergoing anaerobic or aerobic decomposition’.

The spokesman noted that the town hall is still deciding on how exactly they will spend the money.

He assured that there are ‘many new measures being brought in for Jávea since the new rubbish collection contract was approved last year’.
