Farmers fight against climate change

Despite high temperatures and the shortage of rainfall, the Elche countryside is expecting to produce 18.5 million kilos of winter vegetables ‘of excellent quality’ – which is 6% down on last year’s total.

Although there are problems with some crops, farmers have had more success with cruciferous vegetables ‘because they have planted new varieties which are more resistant to climate change’.
