Alicante university (UA) biologists are part of an international project to ‘help to save the fan mussel from extinction’, according to the education centre’s press department.
The ‘Pinna nobilis’ is a large species of Mediterranean clam which can grow to more than a metre in height.
It has almost been wiped out by a parasite.
