Cuevas desalination plant repairs could be halted by nesting wildlife

A plan to repair the Cuevas desalination plant has been released, almost five years a flood in 2012 severely damaged the recently completed €96 million installation.

The state gazette published last week details of the €22 million repair plan. But works cannot start until the area has been surveyed for rare species such as the local tortoise or the Squacco heron. The project warns that in the case of finding breeding pairs of these species within the works area, the project must be put on hold until the young have left the nest.
